Adolfson & Peterson Construction Completes SMU's Clements Hall Scholars Den Renovation

DALLAS, TX — Adolfson & Peterson Construction (AP), a national, family-owned construction management and contracting company, recently completed the Clements Hall Scholars Den renovation on the campus of Dallas’ Southern Methodist University (SMU).

The Scholars Den supports the SMU Honors and Scholars community. AP renovated 6,411 square feet of space including the lobby areas, office spaces, study rooms, meeting rooms, and a lounge area. The renovation provides interior upgrades, enhancements, and improvements to ensure the space fosters academic growth and technological functionality.

“AP has a history of working on amazing higher education projects across the state,” said Terry Loreth, Vice President with AP Gulf States. “As a premier university, SMU's partnership with AP to renovate one of its oldest and most revered buildings is truly an honor.”

AP’s scope involved a comprehensive transformation, including installing new decorative metal panels, millwork, quartz countertops, wood paneling, linear wood ceiling panels, trims, doors, and a glass railing system. Further, the project also encompassed new flooring, tiling, painting, appliances, an ADA wheelchair lift, fire protection, MEP systems, communication setups, AV systems, HVAC and electrical improvements, as well as electronic safety and security systems.

The Scholars Den serves as the host location for SMU’s Honors & Scholars community, including the Hilltop Scholars Program, the Rotunda Scholars Program, the University Honors Program, the Mustang Scholars Program, and the President’s Scholars Program, as well as the Office of Engaged Learning. Located on Mockingbird Lane in the heart of Dallas, SMU is a nationally ranked private university with more than 12,000 students.

AP has worked on several higher education projects across the state of Texas, with current and past projects including The University of Texas Permian-Basin, Midland College, the University of North Texas, The University of Texas in Austin, and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

Office of Moran Architects served as the architect on the renovation project.

Additional AP Gulf States current projects include adaptive reuse work at downtown Dallas’ Santander Tower and the recently completed Stephen G Terrell Recreation Center in Allen, Texas. AP’s recent notable completed projects include the new PGA of America headquarters in Frisco, Vari’s headquarters with VariSpace in Coppell, and Building 17 and 18 at Billingsley Company’s International Business Park in Plano. The AP Central Texas office is currently developing Sunrise Commerce Center in Round Rock.

For more than 75 years, AP has offered preconstruction and construction services to the commercial, education, health care, hospitality, industrial, mission critical, multifamily, municipal, recreation, and senior living market segments across the country from offices in Arizona, Colorado, Minnesota, Texas, and Wyoming.
