Gautier Mayor Casey Vaughan and Col. Jeremiah Gipson, Vicksburg District Commander, formalized the agreement at Gautier City Hall.
The agreement covers the design and construction of upgrades to Gautier’s water, sewer, and drainage systems, with 75 percent of costs federally funded and 25 percent locally funded.
“This work strongly aligns with our priority of supporting climate resilient infrastructure for the nation’s water resources," Gipson said. "We are pleased to be involved with the City of Gautier and this essential investment that will serve the community for generations.”
The Section 592 Program aids communities with water-related infrastructure and environmental projects. Eligible projects must be publicly owned, and non-federal entities must agree to cost-sharing arrangements.
The USACE Vicksburg District is engineering solutions for the nation’s challenges. The Vicksburg District encompasses a 68,000-square-mile area across portions of Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana, that holds nine major river basins and incorporates approximately 460 miles of mainline Mississippi River levees.
