NASHVILLE, TN — The Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT) has named Brad Freeze as Chief Engineer - Assistant Director. Freeze will provide strategic leadership in communications and interact with the Mayor’s Office and the Council and work collaboratively with other Metropolitan Government departments and agencies as part of the effort to advance the Mayor’s Transportation Plan.

He brings more than 18 years of experience in local transportation management and development to NDOT. Freeze joins NDOT’s staff from the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), where he is currently the Director of the Traffic Operations Division.

Over the last nine years, Freeze has led the creation and development of the traffic operations division to maximize the capacity of Tennessee's existing transportation infrastructure. He oversees TDOT's Transportation Management Program, which includes the four Regional Traffic Management Centers and TDOT's HELP Program. Additionally, his responsibilities include the oversight of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) projects and the State Traffic Engineer Office.

Outside of his TDOT responsibilities, Freeze currently serves as Chair of the Technical Advisory Committee of the National Operations Center of Excellence (NOCoE). Serving the emerging transportation systems management and operations community, he leads NOCoE's charge to deploy strategies and technologies to increase the safety and efficiency of the nation’s transportation system.

Freeze is a licensed Engineer and holds a Bachelor of Science in engineering from Tennessee Technological University and a Master of Science in civil engineering from the University of Tennessee. He holds professional memberships with ITS Tennessee, ITS America, and the Institute of Transportation Engineers.
