Work on the project involves milling asphalt concrete, patching, asphalt surface treatment, new asphalt pavement, repairing drainage structures, guardrail replacement, rumble strips, striping, and related work.
“The start of this road preservation project is a great example of the state’s commitment to investing in the state’s infrastructure and economic growth,” said DOTD Secretary Shawn D. Wilson. “U.S. 167 is an essential connector for residents and businesses in this region. This project, which includes guardrail replacement and rumble strips, also means safer and more efficient travel for the motorists who travel across this highway every day.”
Since Governor Edwards took office in 2016, approximately $26.9 million has been invested to improve the U.S. 167 corridor statewide. Serving over 2,500 vehicles per day, this section of U.S. 167 provides access to local commerce, as well as a connection point between Evangeline and Rapides parish.
“I have fought personally for the Hwy. 167 North project for nearly 10 years and to see this project become a reality is overwhelming,” said Senator Heather Cloud. “Thank you DOTD for your efforts, Evangeline Parish Police Jury who made the request and partnered with us, and of course to my colleagues in the legislature and especially Representative Rhonda Butler, who helped to secure the funding.”
