NEW ORLEANS, LA — Mayor LaToya Cantrell recently joined local and state leaders to celebrate the completion of a road improvement project along Fleur de Lis Drive between 30th Street and Old Hammond Highway. The $12-million project was constructed by Command Construction Industries, LLC, and the scope of work included removing and replacing the underground water, sewer and drainage lines, repaving the roadway, as well as installing new sidewalks and Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps at intersections.
Funding for the project came from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LaDOTD), the Regional Planning Commission and the City of New Orleans.
“There is a spirit of collaboration that made this reality happen here, and that is a partnership with the City of New Orleans, the state department of transportation as well as our Regional Planning Commission, and of course the great work of the Department of Public Works, the Sewerage and Water Board and also our Deputy CAO, Ramsey Green,” Cantrell said. “You can’t get things done if you don’t have contractors who not only know what to do but know how to get it done right, so that comes to us with Command Construction. I’m very excited about the improvements here. This has been a long time coming.”
“Repairing streets throughout my district was among my top priorities when I took office,” said State Representative Stephanie Hilferty, District 94. “I have been and will continue to be relentless when it comes to upgrading our infrastructure for the safety and convenience of those I represent. I appreciate the support of the administration and all departments that contributed to the completion of the Fleur de Lis Phase III project.”
“We are excited to celebrate the completion of the third phase of Fleur de Lis,” said Shawn Wilson, Secretary of LaDOTD. “The collaboration between all stakeholders involved has produced a project of great utility for the citizens of New Orleans. We look forward to the continued partnership to build a world class infrastructure system here in Louisiana.”
“The Regional Planning Commission is glad to have had the opportunity to participate in this much-needed project,” said Jeffrey Roesel, Executive Director, Regional Planning Commission. “We thank our partners with City of New Orleans, LaDOTD and the Federal Highway Administration for coming together to make it happen.”
“This is government at its best,” said Ghassan Korban, Executive Director, Sewerage & Water Board. “And as we look forward to so many contracts coming up this year and years to come, this will serve as a great model for us as how to serve this city and its residents.”
“Fleur De Lis Drive is an important thoroughfare and the drainage improvements have significantly increased the capacity to move rain water from the roadway,” said Department of Public Works Director Keith LaGrange, PE. “I want to thank all of the residents and businesses in this neighborhood for their patience throughout construction.”
