Transportation Commission Awards Contracts for Projects in Central Mississippi

JACKSON, MS — The Mississippi Transportation Commission recently awarded construction contracts for construction and maintenance projects in Central Mississippi.

“The nature of these projects shows the Mississippi Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) continued shift from new construction and capacity upgrades to system preservation and maintenance,” said Commissioner Dick Hall, Chair, Mississippi Transportation Commission. “These projects will address critical safety needs on the statewide transportation system.”

The awarded contracts are for pavement rehabilitation, bridge replacement and bridge repair projects.  
  • State Route 18 in Hinds County: Dickerson & Bowen, Inc., of Brookhaven, was awarded the approximately $8.8-million construction contract for the mill and overlay of approximately 12 miles of State Route 18 from the beginning of four-lane south of Raymond to Interstate 20.
  • Interstate 55 in Hinds County: W.E. Blain & Sons, Inc., of Mount Olive, was awarded the approximately $15.3-million construction contract for the overlay of approximately 10 miles of I-55 from the Copiah County line to Byram.
  • U.S. Highway 80 in Hinds and Rankin counties: Gibson & Associates, Inc., of Balch Springs, Texas, was awarded the approximately $1.4-million construction contract for the preservation of the U.S. Highway 80 bridge over the Pearl River.
  • Interstate 59 in Lauderdale County: APAC-Mississippi, of Richland, was awarded the approximately $13.3-million construction contract for the mill and overlay of approximately six miles of I-59 from the 65th Avenue bridge to U.S. Highway 45.
  • State Route 43 in Madison County: T.L. Wallace Construction, of Columbia, was awarded the approximately $3.3-million construction contract for the removal and replacement of two bridges on State Route 43.
  • U.S. Highway 80 in Scott County: W.E. Blain & Sons, Inc. was awarded the approximately $1.4-million construction contract for the mill and overlay of approximately two miles of U.S. Highway 80 from the beginning of the three-lane section to Eastgate Circle.
  • U.S. Highway 82 in Sunflower County: APAC-Mississippi was awarded the approximately $5.2-million construction contract for the overlay of approximately 10 miles of U.S. Highway 82 from U.S. Highway 49 W to the Leflore County line.
  • MDOT will release additional information regarding timelines and impacts to traffic prior to the start of construction. MDOT will alert the traveling public prior to any changes in traffic.
