ACEC of Arkansas Honors Garver-Led Markham Street Jump Start Improvements Project

LITTLE ROCK, AR — Garver recently received the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Arkansas’ 2023 Engineering Excellence Award for the Markham Street Jump Start Improvements Project. The winners were announced at the ACEC’s Engineering Excellence Awards Gala in Little Rock, Arkansas.

The awards recognize Arkansas engineering projects that demonstrate a high degree of achievement, value, and ingenuity and are judged by a panel of industry professionals from around the state. Projects were evaluated based on uniqueness, future value to the engineering profession, and successful fulfillment of the client’s needs.

Garver provided the civil design and construction engineering services for the Markham Street Jump Start Improvements Project, which won the Transportation category. The project is part of Metroplan’s Jump Start Initiatives, which aim to create sustainable, mixed-use, mixed income, and pedestrian friendly communities. Garver collaborated with the city, Metroplan, the Arkansas Department of Transportation, and the public, to help transform Markham Street into a walkable corridor that will foster mixed-use development and economic growth in the area. The innovative design incorporated low-impact development, pedestrian, bicycle, and streetscape features and included unique facilities such as one-way cycle tracks, on-street parking, and bioretention planters.

“Over the past decade, the city of Conway has seen tremendous growth,” said Garver Transportation Team Leader Todd Mueller, P.E. “This project betters the community in so many ways, which in turn will have a positive effect on the city’s future. Not only will the Markham Street project help spark development and revitalize the area, it offers the public a new way to experience where they live. I’m proud to have played a role in that.”

Garver also received Honor Awards for projects across the state led by water, aviation, and transportation teams. Those include: Fort Smith Massard WWTP Study (studies, research, and consulting engineering services), RCC WTP Improvements (water and wastewater), LIT Terminal Ramp Expansion (transportation), FYV Runway and Lighting Rehabilitation (special projects), and HOT Runway 5-23 RSA Improvements (special projects).
