New Orleans Mayor Breaks Ground on $7M Navarre Group A Project

NEW ORLEANS — Mayor LaToya Cantrell recently joined officials and partners to break ground on the $7-million Navarre Group A road improvement project.

"We are showing that in 2020 we are moving projects forward as it relates to infrastructure, from repaving roads to fixing potholes to drainage to sewer lines, sidewalks, and driveway aprons — it goes on and on and on," Cantrell said.

"At the conclusion of this project, residents on 82 blocks will have better streets and an overall improved quality of life. And here in District A alone, there are a total of 33 Joint Infrastructure Recovery Response projects worth an estimated $212 million," said Keith LaGrange, Director of the New Orleans Department of Public Works. "Our job is to not only to spend this grant money responsibly, but also to make sure that you know about the projects and progress happening across the city. So that is again why we’re here and why you will continue to see us marking the start and finish of these projects. To the Navarre residents — thank you in advance for your cooperation and patience."

The City of New Orleans, Department of Public Works, in conjunction with the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO), recently began the road repairs in the Navarre neighborhood. The project is estimated to be completed in winter 2021. The construction contractor is Hard Rock Construction, LLC; $1.6 million of the project budget comes from SWBNO; design and construction management is provided by Phoenix Global.

The scope of work varies block by block, but includes:

  • Repaving the asphalt roadway from curb-to-curb
  • Patching the roadway with asphalt or concrete
  • Repairing damaged sidewalks and driveway aprons
  • Installing Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps at intersection
  • Replacing/repairing damaged underground water lines

  • Chris Harris, City of New Orleans Construction Manager
  • Renee Kendrick, Sewerage and Water Board
  • Chris McClellan, Hard Rock Construction, LLC
  • Yu-Chiao Lo, Vinay Ramesh, and Taylor Donaldson, Phoenix Global

This project is part of nearly $600 million worth of work the city is doing across New Orleans. The city has 16 projects under construction worth about $108 million. Next month, work will begin on the West Bank Group B project, Read East Group D project, and the St. Claude Group C projects, and another 10 projects are not far behind in the bid and award phase. The Navarre Group A project is a half mile from the recently completed $3-million Marconi Drive/Orleans Avenue project.
