"A key takeaway from the Treasury data is that the bipartisan infrastructure law is working in year-one as intended, with state transportation departments disbursing funds and projects breaking ground," said American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) Chief Economist Dr. Alison Premo Black, who prepared the report.
"The economic and quality of life benefits of the infrastructure law will become even more apparent as funding continues in coming years," said ARTBA Chair Paula Hammond, a WSP USA Senior Vice President. "The beneficiaries of these long-term investments will be the American traveling public in their communities."
President Joe Biden signed the IIJA into law Nov. 15, 2021. Nearly 90 percent of IIJA's highway funds are dispersed by existing formula to states, with the remainder distributed through discretionary grant awards and other allocated programs.
Nationally, over 29,000 IIJA projects were launched through the end of September.

Ohio leveraged $1.8 billion in federal highway and bridge formula funds in FY 2022 to help jumpstart 1,665 new improvement projects in communities across the state. The five largest projects supported by formula funds in Ohio are:
- I-70/71 Downtown Ramp Up Project in Columbus - $123.8 million
- Major Rehabilitation of the I-75 in Montgomery County - $85.5 million
- Construction of the Brent Spence Bridge Corridor Project - $52.0 million

- MO 51 Replacement of Chester Bridge over Mississippi River, Construct Two-Lane Road - $107.5 million
- St. Louis Co., IS 270, Modify Interchange Configuration at Riverview Boulevard in St. Louis City - $37.1 million
- MO 86, Taney Co., Bridge Replacement over Table Rock Lake - $32.0 million

Kentucky leveraged $897.2 million in federal highway and bridge formula funds in FY 2022 to help jumpstart 509 new improvement projects in communities across the state. The five largest projects supported by formula funds in Kentucky are:
- Maintenance of the I-64 Sherman Minton Bridge and Three Indiana Approach Bridges and One Kentucky Approach Bridge - $34.2 million
- Relocate US 127, Including New Bridge over Lake Cumberland - $32.9 million
- Pikeville to Va. State Line: Improvements to US 460/KY-80 from Dunleary Hollow to Beaver Creek - $30.8 million
- Construction of the Downtown Ohio River Crossing & Associated Roadway Approaches in Louisville, Kentucky & Jeffersonville, Indiana - $27.2 million
- Reconstruction and Work on Six Lane Priority Section of I-71 Between I-265 and Ky-329 - $22.9 million
Indiana leveraged $1.3 billion in federal highway and bridge formula funds in FY 2022 to help jumpstart 1,634 new improvement projects in communities across the state. The five largest projects supported by formula funds in Indiana are:
- Added Travel Lanes, Rehabilitation, and Modernization on I-70 in Hancock County, Greenfield District - $71.5 million
